Simulation of Radar Target "Glint" using Antenna Arrays

When a radar signal hits a target such as an aircraft or a ship, the reflections from multiple facets of the target can combine in strange ways. Sometimes this results in an apparent reflection point being outside the actual target. This phenomenon is known as "glint".

NeoDym Systems designed a special antenna array which would simulate this effect inside a special radar target chamber. The company also simulated the view of the target as "seen" by the viewing radar.

Radar view of "normal" point target

Radar view of target when the glint effect has caused it to appear to split in two
